What a happy accident: Lavender Blossom Soap. Lovingly named because it smells like a real English “Lavender Blossoms” straight from the plant: floral, soft and sweet!

Our farm never intended for our lavender soap to be the star of the show! It is the top seller by volume at markets, online and has hit “best seller” status on Etsy several times.

Our unique Lavender Blossom line of soaps are farmcrafted with a hybrid infusion of English lavender infused oils and English lavender hydrosol. Only English lavender is used in our soap and the lavender is grown on our farm. There were no tutorials online when we started this technique. Soap makers insist it won’t work. Through a LOT of trial and error, we made it work by reserving and anchoring our hydrodistilled (not steam distilled) lavender hydrosol!

Our Lavender Blossom Soap scent notes sets us apart from the rest because of the pure English lavender infusions we use. We do not use camphorous medicinal scented lavandins, stinky chemical adulterated lavender 40/42 blends or synthetic fragrance oils. We do not use lavender buds as an aesthetic garnish or exfoliant because they have a tendency to mold or rot during long cure (causing premature rancidity) and look like mouse turds in well cured soap.

Our farm’s proprietary lavender scenting style has morphed into many different soap formulations over the years. Each formulation with different oils and fats will always produce a slightly different scent variation , even though the lavender infusion remains consistent.

Lavender Blossom Soap Chemistry

Understanding the chemistry behind the formulation and process of “saponification” is paramount to creating the perfect lavender blossom bar of soap. It goes well beyond our unique, natural scent. Each oil, fat, clay and natural additive (ie: goat milk or honey) is chosen for our formulations, not by complete accident, but with skin loving intention.

We choose oils and fats with minimal processing. We say “no” to refined oils and we say “yes” to organic. Vegetable oils, such as avocado or olive oils, are virgin, when possible, and cold pressed. We do not choose oils made from known GMO crops such as canola, soybean, rapeseed, corn or solvent (chemical) extracted oils like Pomace Olive Oil. There is nothing to hide! All of our high-end ingredients, chosen with intention, are proudly displayed on each individual soap listing.

Cure time is essential for producing a soap bar with perfect performance. Soap improves during the aging process: just like fine wine. Not only does the water need to evaporate from the soap as it cures, the oils and the fats in soap form sodium chain bonds with the lye and slowly the crystalline structure forms. After the sodium chain bonds form with the oils and fats, no trace of lye, or sodium hydroxide, is present in the soap. The curing process makes the soap more mild, enhances lather and hardens the bar for long lasting performance.

Our soap is cured a minimum of 3 months and longer. You may feel confident knowing that you are using a high quality bar of lavender blossom soap. You are not paying for unevaporated water (in our case, lavender hydrosol) or improperly cured soap that didn’t have a chance to form its crystalline structure.

Soap is a wash off product so it is never “nourishing,” “moisturizing” or “hydrating.” Improperly formulated and uncured soap can strip the natural oils off your skin and leave you with dry and flaky skin. Properly formulated and cured soap leaves the oils on your skin + leaves you clean and the natural oils left on your skin gives the impression of feeling moisturized! Soap formulation is important from knowing which saponified oils, (such as high percentages of coconut,) are drying and what “superfat” (unsaponified oils or fats) is appropriate for the formulation.
